Autodarts X pre-order: price, release date and what is in the box

Winmau announced Autodarts X at IFA Berlin on 2 September 2026 and opened pre-orders on 17 September. The questions have been the same throughout: how much, when does one actually turn up, and what do I get in the box?

This page answers those three, and nothing else. It is not a review — nobody here has had one in their hands, and you should not trust anyone who claims otherwise this early. It is not a sales pitch for our own kit either; there is a link to that comparison at the bottom if you want it. Every figure below is quoted from Winmau's or Autodarts' own pages, with the date we checked them.

Can you buy Autodarts X yet?

You can order one. You cannot throw at one yet. Pre-orders opened on 17 September 2026 and as of 5 October 2026 Winmau's own page reads "pre-order autodarts X now" at £449, with UK retailers — Premier Darts, Darts Corner, Red Dragon among them — taking orders at the same price.

The dispatch date those retailers quote is 20 October 2026. That is the number that matters, because it is what you are actually buying: a card charged now against a box that arrives in late October at the earliest. Some retailers are already showing the first run as backordered, so a pre-order placed late may well land after that date rather than on it.

Neither Winmau nor autodarts.com commits to a delivery date in its own words — the 20 October 2026 figure comes from the retailers listing it. Treat it as a well-sourced estimate rather than a promise, which is how first production runs generally behave.

What it costs: £449

Winmau lists Autodarts X at £449. That is a single, complete unit — cameras and lighting together — and there is no computer to buy alongside it.

Two things are included that are easy to miss. Every unit ships with 3 months of Autodarts Plus, and Winmau states a two-year warranty on electronic components. And one thing is not included: a dartboard. Autodarts X fits around a board you already own.

Winmau's FAQ is also explicit that core automatic scoring does not require an ongoing Plus subscription — so after the 3 free months run out, you can simply not renew and carry on scoring. Plus adds the AI referee, advanced statistics and the rest.

  • Autodarts X — £449, four HD cameras and integrated 360° lighting in one unit
  • Includes 3 months of Autodarts Plus
  • Two-year warranty on electronic components
  • No separate computer required
  • No separate light ring required — the lighting is built in
  • Dartboard not included

What is actually in the box

Winmau describes four HD cameras doing real-time computer vision to identify where each dart lands, and an integrated 360° diffused lighting ring — powder-coated aluminium, 4000K cool white LED, built on the company's Plasma lighting heritage. Because the lighting is part of the unit, a separate light ring is not needed.

Mounting is clamp-based and drill-free: Winmau claims setup in under three minutes with no tools, around a wall-mounted bristle board or on a compatible dartboard stand. It comes off in four clicks and folds flat for storage, which is a genuinely thoughtful answer for a room that has to be a dining room again on Sunday.

Connectivity is dual-band Wi-Fi, with USB-C required for first pairing and available afterwards as a wired option. Firmware updates arrive over the air.

Four things worth knowing before you commit

First: it is not a standalone scorer. Winmau's FAQ states that a free Autodarts account is required because the hardware works through the connected Autodarts experience, and that it "does not operate as a standalone scoring system". If your internet is unreliable, that is a real consideration.

Second: USB-C is required for first pairing, so you need to be able to reach the unit with a cable at least once, even if it lives on Wi-Fi afterwards.

Third: the AI referee is described as being for "Plus members with the Autodarts X rig" — so it needs both the subscription and the hardware. That is not a criticism of X; it is the same on any camera setup, and it is the one Plus feature that phone-camera scoring cannot give you.

Fourth: £449 buys a complete, first-party system with one company to call. That is worth real money and we are not going to pretend otherwise. What it does not buy is a longer guarantee — our kits carry the same 24-month warranty — a computer you can use for anything else, or the ability to replace one camera when one camera is the thing that breaks.

What to do while you wait

If you have never used automatic scoring, do not wait at all — install the Autodarts app and try Lens, the platform's phone-camera scoring, which is free for 5 matches a month. It costs nothing and it answers the question X cannot answer from a specification sheet: do you actually enjoy playing this way?

If you already know you want a permanent setup and would rather not wait until 20 October 2026, a DIY or shop-built camera setup does the same job today. That is what we sell, from £299.98, and "Custom DIY setups" is listed in Autodarts' own app alongside X and Vantage as a supported hardware path — this is not a workaround.

And if what you want is specifically Autodarts X — four cameras, integrated lighting, one box, one warranty, drill-free — then pre-order it. It is a well-made piece of kit from a serious darts company, we have not tested one, and we are not going to tell you our setup detects better than theirs. Buy the thing you actually want.

When can you pre-order Autodarts X, and when does it arrive?
Pre-orders opened on 17 September 2026 and are live now at £449 on winmau.com and at UK retailers. Dispatch is quoted from 20 October 2026, so a pre-order placed today is a board you throw at in late October at the earliest — and some retailers already show the first run as backordered. Checked 5 October 2026.
How much does Autodarts X cost?
Winmau lists Autodarts X at £449. That covers the complete unit — four HD cameras and integrated 360° lighting — with no separate computer or light ring needed. A dartboard is not included.
Do you need a subscription for Autodarts X?
No. Winmau's FAQ states that core automatic scoring does not require an ongoing Plus membership, and every unit includes 3 months of Plus. Plus adds the AI referee, advanced statistics, extra game modes and the ability to create your own tournaments, at £5.99 a month or £59.99 a year.
Does Autodarts X need a computer?
No. The computing is built into the unit, which is one of the main differences between Autodarts X and a DIY camera setup — the latter runs the board software on a small dedicated machine such as a mini PC.
Will Autodarts X fit my dartboard?
Winmau states it is designed for any standard bristle dartboard, and can be installed around a wall-mounted board or used with a compatible dartboard stand. Mounting is clamp-based and requires no drilling or tools.
Does Autodarts X work without the internet?
Not as a standalone scorer. Winmau’s FAQ says a free Autodarts account is required because the hardware works through the connected Autodarts experience, and that it does not operate as a standalone scoring system.
Can you buy an Autodarts setup that works today instead?
Yes. A custom DIY setup — cameras, mounts, lighting and a small computer — is explicitly supported by the Autodarts platform and available now. We build and sell exactly that from £299.98, posted in 3–5 working days. We have not bench-tested an Autodarts X, so we make no claim about which detects better.

Not waiting until 20 October 2026?

A shop-built Autodarts setup does the same job today — pre-configured mini PC, cameras, mounts and light ring, bench-tested with a free remote setup call, from £299.98 once and nothing ongoing.
