How much does an Autodarts setup cost in the UK?

The Autodarts software is free. What you pay for is the hardware that watches your board, and in the UK that runs from nothing at all, using your phone, to £449 for Winmau's Autodarts X. A complete setup bought from nothing — computer, cameras, mounts and lighting — is £299.98 from us.

Headline prices are not comparable on their own, because each route leaves you something different to supply: a computer, a light ring, a screen. This guide prices every route and says plainly what each one leaves out. We sell some of these, so weigh our view accordingly — but every figure is sourced and dated at the foot of the page.

Every route, priced

All of these run the same Autodarts platform, the same free account and the same online matchmaking. None of them includes a dartboard.

RoutePriceYou still need
Autodarts Lens (phone camera)£0A phone and somewhere to stand it — free for 5 matches a month
Our mount kit, keeping your light ring£139.99A compatible ring you already own, a computer, a screen
Our light ring bundle£149.99A computer and a screen
Autodarts Vantage£199.99Lighting, a laptop or other computer, and a screen
Our mount kit + mini PC£289.98A compatible ring you already own, a screen
Our complete kit (mini PC + light ring bundle)£299.98A screen — any TV or monitor with HDMI
Winmau Autodarts X£449A phone, tablet, laptop or TV to run the game
Our complete touchscreen setup£448.99Nothing but the dartboard

What every Autodarts setup needs

Strip away the branding and every camera setup is the same five things. The price differences between routes are almost entirely about which of them come in the box.

  • A steel-tip bristle dartboard — not included with any of the routes above
  • Cameras watching the board from fixed positions, three on most setups and four on Autodarts X
  • Even, flicker-free lighting — the part self-built setups most often get wrong, and most of the battle for accuracy
  • Something to run the detection: a computer by the board, or processing built into the unit as on Autodarts X
  • A screen to run the game from — pick the game, add players, correct a dart

The costs people forget

The screen is the one that catches people out. The mini PC has no display of its own and Autodarts X has none either; both are run from a screen you supply. If there is a TV or an old tablet you can reach from the oche, that costs nothing. If the board is in a garage or a shed with nothing on the wall, add one: our 18-inch touchscreen is £179.99 on its own, which takes Autodarts X to £628.99.

The computer is the second. The Vantage and our mount kits and light ring bundle all expect you to supply one. A spare laptop or a Raspberry Pi can do the job, but the machine has to read three cameras at once and be by the board, switched on, every time you want to throw — which is where a spare laptop tends to fall down in daily use.

The lighting is the third. If a route says lighting is not included, budget for a light ring: cameras that cannot see the board evenly misread darts, and no software setting fixes that.

From scratch: the real total

If you are starting with an empty wall, add a board and, where the route needs one, a light. Pricing the board at a Winmau Blade 6 (£54.99) and assuming you already have a TV or monitor you can see from the oche, the four common routes come out like this.

  • Boards: the Blade 6 is a mid-range bristle board; any standard steel-tip bristle board works with every route here.
  • Lights: the Vantage's retailer recommends Winmau's Plasma. A Mission Torus 270 is cheaper at £49.95.
Starting from nothingTotalStill not included
Autodarts Vantage + Winmau Plasma light (£70) + board£324.98A computer by the board — a laptop you own, or our mini PC at £149.99
Our complete kit + board£354.97Nothing — the light ring and the computer are in the kit
Autodarts X + board£503.99A device to run the game — your phone, tablet or TV
Our complete touchscreen setup + board£503.98Nothing — the screen is in the box as well

Is there a subscription?

Not for normal play. Automatic scoring, online matches, matchmaking, statistics and entering the platform's online tournaments are all free on any Autodarts account, whichever hardware you use, and we charge nothing ongoing.

Autodarts Plus is optional, at £5.99 a month or £59.99 a year. It adds advanced statistics, creating your own tournaments, extra game modes and the AI referee, and makes Lens unlimited. Autodarts X includes 3 months of it; our kits do not.

The cheapest route for your situation

The cheapest setup is the one that reuses what you already own. Roughly in order of spend:

  • Just curious whether you want automatic scoring at all — try Autodarts Lens on your phone first. It is free for 5 matches a month and will answer the question in an evening.
  • Already own a Mission Torus 270, a Winmau light ring or a Target Corona stand, plus a computer that can live by the board — a mount kit with cameras, £139.99.
  • Starting from nothing, with a TV or monitor near the board — our complete kit, £299.98, or £149 less than Autodarts X.
  • Starting from nothing, with no screen at the board — our complete touchscreen setup at £448.99, against £628.99 for Autodarts X plus a touchscreen.
  • Want the tidiest installation and a first-party Winmau product — Autodarts X. It costs more than our complete kit, and what that buys is integration, not a different game.

Is it cheaper to build it yourself?

Yes, in parts. Sourcing your own webcams, printing your own mounts and setting up your own computer is the cheapest permanent setup there is, and the Autodarts community documents it well. What it costs instead is evenings: choosing cameras, working out mount positions, finding a machine with enough USB bandwidth, and calibrating.

A pre-built kit like ours is the same class of parts with that work done and tested on a real board before dispatch. Whether that is worth the difference is your call — if you enjoy the building, it is not.

How much does Autodarts cost in the UK?
The software is free; you pay for hardware. In the UK that ranges from nothing, using Autodarts Lens on your phone, to £449 for Winmau's Autodarts X. A complete setup bought from nothing — mini PC, cameras, mounts and a light ring — is £299.98 from us. None of these includes a dartboard, and most need a screen you supply.
Is Autodarts free?
The software and the account are. Automatic scoring, online play, statistics and entering online tournaments cost nothing. You pay once for the hardware, and Autodarts Plus is an optional extra at £5.99 a month or £59.99 a year.
What is the cheapest complete Autodarts setup?
If you already own a compatible light ring and a computer that can stay by the board, a mount kit with cameras is £139.99. From nothing, our complete kit — mini PC, light ring, mounts and cameras — is £299.98. Self-sourcing every part yourself is cheaper again, at the cost of several evenings of research and setup.
What else do I need to buy with Autodarts X?
A dartboard, if you do not have one, and a screen to run the game from — Autodarts X has its processing built in, so it needs no computer, but the scoreboard and controls run on a phone, tablet, laptop or TV that you provide.
How much does a complete Autodarts setup cost from scratch?
With a £54.99 Winmau Blade 6 board and a TV you already own: about £324.98 for an Autodarts Vantage with a Winmau Plasma light, plus a computer of your own; £354.97 for our complete kit, computer and lighting included; and £503.99 for Autodarts X. With no screen at the board, our complete touchscreen setup and a board come to £503.98.
Are there any ongoing costs?
Not for normal play: there is no subscription needed to score, play online or enter tournaments. Autodarts Plus is optional at £5.99 a month. A small mini PC left on uses very little power.
